    Description

Presented today is this remarkable Hopi Kachina doll, depicting a VERY unusually dressed Ho'e Clown. These boisterous figures usually appear at the Bean Dance, where they carry on noisily during the actual dances. They delight children with their antics, and seem to specialize in getting the other clowns in trouble with the Guard Kachinas, particularly the Kwikwilyakas. In this extraordinary representation, we see the Ho'e playing an actual Guard, with yucca whips, a Snake Priest kilt and a Sun Crown. Extremely unusual! This dramatic example,
standing 10 and a half inches tall, was carved by Phillip Shelton, son of the legendary Henry Shelton. Phillip's work is always very reminiscent of his father's, as can be clearly seen in this wonderful doll. He told me this representation is based on a childhood memory of a Ho'e dressed this way at a Bean Dance in Oraibi, and he had always wanted to represent a Ho'e like this. Buy with complete confidence, for as you all know, if the buyer is unsatisfied for ANY reason, i will immediately return the full purchase price, including return shipping. Phillip carves exactly like his legendary father, and sometimes it's hard to tell their work apart. Don't let this great opportunity pass you by. Many Thanks for looking, and sincere congratulations in advance to the VERY lucky buyer! Best Regards, Rich
